Dominique Reid, of Bridgeport, and Elijah Holloman, of Weston, were both arrested and charged last week in the heist, Westport police said.
On Oct. 3, police spotted the stolen vehicle and started a chase that ended when it slammed into a Wilton police car, disabling the boosted car that had been taken a week earlier. But it was what was inside that sparked a larger investigation.
Police found a cache of checks belonging to Westport residents and others in nearby towns
Police did not say how the duo ended up with the checks or how much they were worth.
Holloman was previously charged with carjacking and possession of the stolen checks, Westport police said. He remained in custody.
Reid was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 16, and charged with illegal possession of personal ID info, conspiracy to commit illegal possession of personal ID info, identity theft, and conspiracy to commit identity theft, police said. He was being held on a $75,000 bond.
Police did not provide any other information on the carjacking or the checks.
